Blue Ball Cottage is set in the peaceful valley of the stunning costal village of Branscombe. The Stone cottage itself faces south overlooking the stunning fields and woodlands beyond. It is within walking distance of Branscombe beach, which can be reached either on the road and National Trust meadows and fields, or opposite the cottage over winding paths and the cliffs that overlook Branscombe beach itself. There is a car park on the beach, and also a restaurant and small shop(seasonal).
The cottage is a pleasant five-minute walk from the village Post Office/Store. There are two pubs within walking distance, both serving excellent food and local ale and cider. There is a bench in front of the cottage, overlooking the valley, which catches the sun for most of the day, and from which you can watch the cows grazing on the valley and spot pheasant, deer, fox, badgers and other local wildlife.
The church(a couple of minutes walk) dates back to saxon times and makes for an interesting visit. Near the village hall there is an Old Bakery which has a tearoom and walks to an old restored Mill, and the lovely thatched working blacksmiths. Branscombe has lots of beautiful walks through the wooded valleys and along the costal path on cliffs with spectacular views from Portland Bill to Dartmoor. The East Devon coast obtained world heritage status for outstanding geology and also for its natural beauty.
Nearby, along the coast is the attractive fishing village of Beer with small shops and restraurants, which also hosts a blues festival and Regatta week. and also sidmouth, a lovely Regency seaside town with lots of shops and supermarkets. the small market town of honiton is also nearby, with a street market twice a week and lots of antique shops and Cafe's.
ACCOMODATION
The cottage is attractively furnished with night storage heaters in the sitting room and both bedrooms. The sitting room has a large sofa, armchair , and rocking chair and has a lovely 'coal effect' Electric stove heater. The front door is an attractive stable door, the top of which can be left open to enjoy the view of the valley opposite. The Kitchen is well equipped, and has a small table with 4 chairs, cooker and fridge. There are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with two single beds. There is also a small enclosed courtyard at the rear of the property.
